Great blog, and congratulations on the success of your U2charists!
Just one factual note:
St. George’s parish in Maine was hardly risking its reputation by holding a U2charist in 2005. By the time St. George’s held its first U2charist, dozens, if not hundreds, of other congregations had already done so, and the DIocese of Maryland had made the U2charist the keynote worship service for its clergy conference (required for all clergy in the diocese to attend) nearly a year earlier.
You should have heard the grief I got about having started the U2charist while I was interviewing in the ordination process in 2004, but I’m glad to say that by the time St. George’s joined the movement, it was non-controversial within the Episcopal Church at least, and had been adopted by congregations in at least six or seven other denominations and non-denominational churches.
Thanks be to God!
